Trivia
Regarding the world/setting of MGE
- There are still parts of the ocean controlled by gods allied with the Chief God (though these areas are small, relative to what Poseidon controls). Humans are largely safe from monster attacks in such places, but unlike where Poseidon reigns, they can die from storms and such. (source: Kenkou’s Japanese Q and A).
- Even in the current time of the setting, its not unusual for commoners in anti-monster lands to spend their whole lives without ever meeting a monster (assuming they remain in their village). The average person in such a land thus knows fairly little about monsters, due to the flow of information being slow and sometimes restricted to what the Order approves of. (source: Kenkou’s Japanese Q and A).
- Only monsters being born from human/monster coupling is not a "new" thing, but a holdover from the age of the former mamono lords, wherein any monsters that could breed with humans still only produced monsters (source: Kenkou’s Japanese Q and A).
- In the current MGE, revealing outfits are common among human women due to habituation. Monsters tend to wear very revealing outfits, and humans seeing this will consider moderately revealing things proper, as they are still “less” revealing than what the monsters wear. Monsters disguised as humans also bring mamono-style clothing into places where monsters are barred, and over time influence clothes makers. (source: Patreon Q and A).
- In the MGE, it's impossible for two men to love one woman completely equally, so cases of a woman monsterizing and being torn between two men who want her won't happen. If the man she doesn't choose is genuinely heartbroken over it, chances are a doppelganger or other monster girl will come in to comfort him. (source: Patreon Q and A).
- A good job for a man who wants to travel around the world of the MGE is to be a peddler, as one can make a good amount of money selling various unique items from tourist attractions in places where they are not normally available. Working for a ratatoskr publishing house as a reporter or in a Runya Runya Sabbath coven, doing research for a book on tourist attractions or regional cuisine are other options. (source: Patreon Q and A).
- Most monsters could not transform humans into monsters in the era of the former mamono lords. There were cases of humans who turned into monsters, but this was normally a vicious human-murderer losing their reason and becoming a beast in mind and body. A few monsters did have the ability to turn humans into their own kind even back then though, namely succubi, werewolves and vampires. (source: Patreon Q and A).
- There was some chaos, but due to the speed of Lescatie's fall and the lack of speedy communication it was already over by the time surrounding nations even became aware of it. Former king Castor was instrumental in alleviating confusion and reorganizing state relations. The small nations around Lescatie were also dependent on it for protection, so they were not equipped to mount any armed response to the invasion of Lescatie and ended up continuing to be under Lescatie's protection. Spies from many nations were present in Lescatie, but most of them ended up entangled with or transformed into monster girls, again delaying other nations from responding. (source: Personal communication with KC).
- Although herbivore mamono prefer vegetables, they can eat meat too. Because they're half-human, werewolves and werecats can eat onions despite they're toxic to cats and dogs.[1]
Regarding monster societies, beliefs and social practices
- The distinction between hard yuri and the sexual behavior monster girls engage in with other females works like this from their perspective: Namely, it is about intention. Monsters don't seek sexual satisfaction from each other or from human women, to them, what they do with other females is either for the purpose of monsterization, or amounts to playing or showing affection among intimate friends; satisfaction is something they only seek from the man they bond with as their husband. They may also engage in sexual behavior with their own kind as an extra means of luring a man (as in the liliraune). (source: Kenkou's 2015 Ask.fm page, viewable on the 'Setting' topic on the Q&A board, liliraune profile).
- While monsters often have particular work they are notably skilled at, they will often also assist in whatever job/work their husband happens to have. (source: Kenkou’s Japanese Q and A).
- In more detail regarding what men monsters don't like, they won't fall in love with psychopaths and wicked people who think things like "killing people is fun" or "causing others misfortune is fun." (source: Kenkou’s Japanese Q and A).
- Monsters that seek strong husbands will still prioritize a weak man who challenges them provided he has feelings for them, and thus will reject other men. A childhood friend will also get priority if such feelings are present. As monsters live long lives and often have a leisurely sense of time, it’s not unusual for them to start having sex with him even before the man gets strong enough, as they know the man will become strong eventually. Basically he doesn't need to be powerful in the present, and they will mold him into a powerful man. (source: Patreon Q and A).
- In addition to playing various sports themselves, many monsters enjoy watching their boyfriends and husbands play sports and will cheer them on. They may wear various outfits similar to cheerleading outfits from our world. (source: Patreon Q and A).
- Among the holidays commonly celebrated by monsters is the famous "Anniversary of the Ascension of the Mamono Lord." It celebrates the gaining of the bodies monsters now have, and their gratitude to her for it. It’s widely considered a day to dress in special revealing outfits to show off those bodies. (source: Patreon Q and A).
- Many monsters are aroused at the sight of a weak man. However, this is rarely mentioned in the profiles as a distinct fetish, since compared to monster girls, most men are weak anyway. "I want to be protected by you" and similar words are seen as a strong confession of love, especially by monsters like hellhounds, ocelomeh and amazoness. (source: Patreon Q and A).
- Pandemonium trades with the outside world and has stores in it. However, due to the extremely desire-focused nature of Pandemonium's residents, the stores are often only open a few hours a day once a week. Yet, due to the distorted nature of time in Pandemonium, if one enters the store then regardless of what time it is in the regular world, the store will always be connected to a time in Pandemonium when the store is open. (source: Patreon Q and A).
- Aside from using a mana marker on yourself (it is noted this is not difficult magic to learn), it is possible to find an eligible monster of a race you want by simply shouting out the kind you want where monster girls are around. If you are serious then a friendly monster girl may be able to introduce you to a friend or acquaintance of that kind of monster. A more reliable way is to go to agencies that exist in some cities that are run by monster girls. These agencies work to match up unmarried men with specific monster girl types. (source: Patreon Q and A).
- Monsters consider sex toys their husband uses alone, masturbation supplies, etc. to be acceptable, though jealous types like shirohebi may get jittery about it. They will of course want him to do it with them instead if he is able to. (source: Kenkou's 2015 Ask.fm page).
- Natural born monsters don't really have complexes about their age, since they look young regardless. However, monsterized humans may feel differently and have that human potential stigma toward their own age. Saphirette, for instance, intentionally obscured her birth date in World Guide 2 in order to keep her age from being known, as she has a complex over how she is an adult with no experience in romance. (source: Personal communication with Kenkou Cross).
- Much like their taste in other clothes, monster wedding dresses may be revealing or modest depending on the individual and the desires/tastes of her husband. One reason to wear a modest dress is to encourage her husband to take it off. (source: Patreon reply).
- Related to how what is most important to monsters is not who is "in charge" during sex but the fact that they are having sex with their husband, and they can be happy with both extremes. Monsters have long marital sex lives, and want to enjoy all sorts of things with their husband. Thus, even if its not their favorite position or type of erotic play, they still may indulge in it at times. (source: Making of Ocelomeh article on Patreon).
- After the Mamono Lord achieves her goals, there will be fewer monsters who "attack men to get their hands on them" than before, simply because more monsters will live in cities and be able to seduce humans in other ways. That said, the instinct of "attacking because they cannot suppress their lust" is a separate instinct from the "monsters attack humans" instinct, so the former will remain unchanged and many monsters will continue to attack men in order to be with them or because they feel so much love. Further, it seems the "monsters are higher ranking creatures than humans" setting will in a sense never be able to be completely removed, even when the Mamono Lord's plans are realized. In short, in the fully changed settings where the barrier between humans and monsters has been erased, "monsters attack humans" as an instinct will indeed disappear, but it will be replaced with common sense and values that say "if a girl likes a boy enough, she will attack the boy." (source: Personal communication with Kenkou Cross).
- Further, monsters like amazoness may still go on hunting trips for men, they just will be more likely to bond with male childhood friends instead. (source: Personal communication with Kenkou Cross).
Regarding incest and harems
- Those who wish to avoid their monster girl daughters falling in love with them are recommended to encourage their independence. Outside of monsters where incest is cultural or instinctive, incest usually occurs only if the father pampers the daughter too much and spends time with her to the extent that she doesn't get enough time with others.(source: Kenkou’s Japanese Q and A combined with info from World Guide 1: Monster Ecology 7).
- Additionally, if the wife genuinely does not want it, then incest will not happen. The daughter will sense her mother's devotion and never develop such feelings for her father to begin with. (source: Patreon comment from KC).
- The majority of marriages between men and monsters in the MGE are monogamous. While he does like harems, the main reason KC has harems in the setting is to make it so there are not any heroines who love a hero but lose him to someone else and never have their feelings fulfilled. The hero is obligated to make all the heroines happy. (source: Patreon comment from KC).
- For men with harems, there exist various magical options to ease issues of spending enough time with individual wives. These magics deal with perception of time, slowing down time, etc. However, even if the man or monsters lack such magic, Pandemonium itself and places such as rooms with the same time-freezing properties as Pandemonium can be made that offer a way to go off and have sex as much as one wants with one wife and then come back to the regular world where no time will have passed, so they are not missed by the other wives. (source: Patreon PM from Kenkou).
- For harems involving a member of a race that habitually confines their husband, basically there aren't special rules for how they deal with it, beyond that if he has a single body then obviously the husband can't stay with just the one wife all the time. As is usually the case, what happens will vary with the individuals involved. In some cases the man may only be kept contained when he is interacting with that specific wife. In others there may be frequent use of the doppelganger potion so that an extra body can stay with her all the time. Another thing to note is that monsters like sandworm and will-o-the-wisp have enough space to let another harem member in with them and the husband. (source: Personal communication with Kenkou Cross).
- In real world biology incest causes harm due to the likelihood of related creatures having problematic genes in common, but the genetics of monster girls and humans are very different. Indeed, the mechanisms allowing them to interbreed in the first place and how genetic inheritance works are very different from interbreeding within the same species. There is also the magical aspects to it, such as mamono mana being linked to all other mamono mana via the mamono lord meaning that it has all the information needed to compensate for any loss in genetic diversity. (source: Subscribestar reply)
Regarding magic
- Monsters capable of learning spells can learn the polymorph spell (now officially known as anthropomorphosis and distinct from related shape-changing spells) to assume a human form, though their skill with it varies greatly (they may not be able to change their skin color, for instance). This is useful for monsters like alraunes that normally have to move around inside their flower and may find it inconvenient on a date. (source: Kenkou’s Japanese Q and A).
- Pleasure runes work just as well when carved on men. (source: Kenkou’s Japanese Q and A).
- The spell of anthropomorphosis can be used instinctively rather than learned, allowing women who have recently monsterized to hide their changed form. In fact, monsterized humans are often better at using anthropomorphosis than natural-born monsters, since they were human originally. (source: Patreon PM from Kenkou).
- Divination magic is extremely advanced, and there are few who can see far into the future. Asura Mythra’s case, of seeing her husband centuries before meeting him was an exceptional thing. Predicting the relatively near future is more common, but still very difficult and not a magic widespread among monsters. There are sabbaths that specialize in the study of divination magic to try to prevent wars and disasters by predicting them, though using it to find husbands is also a priority. (source: Patreon Q and A).
- The doppelganger potion is not magic that increases the number of yourselves, but rather increases the amount of body your singular self has. As such, it takes training to do more than instinctual things with them, as you have to learn how to handle seeing, hearing, etc. multiple things at once. This is why, when inexperienced, the incubus can't do much other than have sex when using the potion. (source: Kenkou tweet).
Transformation magic
- Being able to take on the form they had in the ancient era is not a power limited among monsters to only dragons, it is simply dragons who are most known for it as they find it easy to do the transformation due to being created to be "the strongest creatures". Baphomets are another race that can easily do this. In truth, any monster that builds up sufficient power can gain access to this transformation magic, with some caveats.
- 1. While building up power is necessary, there is not a set level of power needed. This is due to how the most important thing is to have a strong image in your head of what the ancient form looked like (gained from learned knowledge, having lived in that time, or other means), or to have instinctive knowledge of this form. Dragons have the latter, baphomets the former (due in part to their high intelligence and high rank as monsters). In contrast, low rank monsters like the large mouse are generally unaware of their ancient form both on an instinctual and intellectual level, and thus transforming into it is often not possible or very difficult for such a monster no matter how powerful they become. In many cases it also varies on an individual level, some monsters are simply good at it while others are not.
- 2. Monsters that did not exist in the ancient era, such as holstaurs and jabberwocks, don't have an ancient form of their current selves. However, because they are descended from minotaurs and dragons, they can use that ancient form if they transform (easy for a jabberwock, potentially possible for a holstaur).
- 3. Monsters that looked the same in the ancient era as they do now, such as lamia and succubi, of course have no ancient form to turn into. It may be possible for them to turn into a more monstrous form, but in that case it would just be transformation magic rather than taking on an ancient form.
- As for the ancient form, it's important to note this is not a "super mode." No monster is any stronger when transformed like this, so the uses for the form are more for utility such as providing greater reach, carrying more things, etc. In relation to this, it gives you a further sense of how powerful a monster like a dragon is, in that she packs in a serious tail swipe in her human-sized form all the power that the tail of her ancient form has. (source: Personal communication with Kenkou Cross).
Regarding the nature of living beings and lifespan in general in the MGE
- All living things have a fixed "physical lifespan" in regards to their physical body specifically, as all physical life degrades over time. While mana growth can suppress deterioration and thus extend the lifespan, it doesn't stop it completely as it is not as if time is stopped. A comparison can be made to machines with batteries. If you replace the batteries and keep up maintenance, then the machine will run much longer, but it will still eventually "die." The same is true for the most long-lived monster girls and incubi. They are in a sense durable "machines" with a very long service life. Even the phoenix is not an exception to this. They are able to "live" forever because when their degraded body dies they have the power to construct a new body in its place and transfer their soul into it. The same thing happens to mortal life, just with a delay, namely their physical body dies, their soul goes to the afterlife and when reincarnating their soul is put into a new body. (source: Personal communication with Kenkou Cross).
Regarding how the Undead are different
- Basically, undead are able to twist the normal rules. "Living" things have their soul contained within a physical body, but the nature of the connection means the soul cannot continue to exist in the body once the body degrades. Undead twist this logic, as for them there is no severing of the body and soul, for them the physical body is not a "vital" thing but rather an incidental part of the soul (which is now the main body) worn by the soul like a garment. Further, their physical body has "stopped," so there is no degradation. Carrying out life activities is what degrades a living body, but for undead those life activities are caused by magic and the soul itself manifesting those changes in the physical body, creating a "pseudo life" that mimics life processes while not deteriorating. It can also be said that because the soul is now the "main body" their body is pulled along by the soul's own immortality. (source: Personal communication with Kenkou Cross).
Regarding the soul and reincarnation
- While a soul may be trapped or placed in a dormant state, it is likely impossible for any being to destroy it. For an example, there are means to damage a ghost's body, but what would be damaged is the body she constructed to interact with the physical world. Her actual soul would be unharmed, even if the constructed body was completely destroyed. She would simply become invisible to normal people and unable to interact with the physical world until she was able to recreate her "body." (source: Personal communication with Kenkou Cross).
- In short, when a man and monster marry, their souls are always "stained/altered" so that their attraction to each other becomes eternal and they will eventually reunite when reincarnated and also regain at least some memories of their past lives with each other. "Soul stained" is a state of being. Their souls will also try to reincarnate at a time and location close to the other soul. (source: Personal communication with Kenkou Cross).
- The Ritual of Soul Marriage goes beyond even this, though. Their souls are bound together in such a way that they are in a sense one soul, and one person can't be killed while the other still lives (this is what is meant by "won't be vulnerable to death" in World Guide 3's description, not that they can't die at all), and if one is an undead then their immortal undead nature will be shared with the spouse. If they are not undead then they will die at the end of their lifespan at precisely the same time as their spouse. Reincarnation is then effected so that they are certain to reincarnate at the same time and near to each other to make it easier to be reunited faster, such as in neighboring families or even as brother and sister (with the resulting forbidden romance, and this presumably refers to the future when monsters birth incubi, or rare situations where a monster's soul gets reincarnated in a human body, or other situations where a boy may end up with a monster girl sister). (source: Personal communication with Kenkou Cross).
- The "souls" of plants and animals are quite different from those of monsters or humans. So humans and monsters do not reincarnate as animals or plants. (source: Personal communication with Kenkou Cross).
- Normally a soul is reborn as the same gender they were in the previous life. Alps are an exception, as they reincarnate as women. (source: Personal communication with Kenkou Cross).
- Human souls can reincarnate as monsters, but as a rule the reverse does not happen. Monsters typically reincarnate as monsters. In the rare cases where their soul does reincarnate in a human body, they may find themselves filled with a particular lust for a certain man, and when the person monsterizes she may experience a strange sensation of "back to the real me." (source: Personal communication with Kenkou Cross).
- Monsters easily reincarnate as the same race of monster they were in the previous life, but exceptions are also relatively common. (source: Personal communication with Kenkou Cross).
Regarding general monster girl biology
- Egg-laying monsters don't mind others eating their eggs, provided they are unfertilized of course. It is easy to tell fertilized eggs apart from unfertilized ones as the latter are notably smaller. (source: Kenkou’s Japanese Q and A).
- Monster girls may get the equivalent of periods, but they are unlike human ones. There is no bleeding or pain, rather they become more sensitive sexually. (source: Kenkou’s Japanese Q and A).
- While monster girls have preferred diets, they are all in essence half-human thanks to the Mamono Lord. Due to this they can eat whatever a human can eat, even if it would be poisonous to the animal they have a similarity to. (source: Kenkou’s Japanese Q and A).
- Beastmen types in general were among the monsters known to have in rare cases overcome their human-killing instincts and fallen in love with humans in the age of the former mamono lords. (source: Kenkou’s Japanese Q and A).
- While its not that unusual for a monster girl's home to be reinforced/sturdy, it's not something the average home has either. Monsters are only overwhelmingly strong at "maximum output", and are good enough at controlling their strength that even a wurm is unlikely to accidentally break a door by knocking on it and such. (source: Patreon PM from Kenkou).
- Undead being able to reproduce applies to those with entirely spiritual bodies as well, like phantoms and will-o-wisps, since they are a "race" rather than just a spirit. (source: Patreon PM from Kenkou).
- Incubation time for monsters that lay eggs varies depending on the monster species, but is no longer than a month. Egg care involves one of the pair warming the eggs regularly, and keeping the bedroom the eggs are kept in supplied with dense mana from their parents having sex. (source: Patreon Q and A).
- When monsters become able to birth incubi, the ratio of male/female births will mostly be 50/50. Exceptions will be species which are natural harem-builders such as devil bugs and khepri, wherein many more girls will be born than boys. Echidnas will also be an exception, as the first child is always an echidna, and as mothers of monsters, monster girl births will predominate (their family structure will often be many big sisters and one little brother). (source: Patreon Q and A).
- Tsukumogami monsters can be born anywhere in the world. However, they are more likely to be born in Zipangu, perhaps due to special differences in the air and mana there. (source: Kenkou's 2015 Ask.fm page).
- As a fantasy RPG setting, it is fair to say that melee weapons and magic in the MGE are far superior to real world firearms. To an MGE monster, a weapon that merely shoots metal balls is nothing more than a pea shooter, such is the nature of their durable bodies. Unless the shooter can infuse their bullets with magic, they wouldn't stand a chance using guns to fight monsters. (source: Personal communication with Kenkou Cross).
- When monsters become able to birth incubi, they will be born in the conventional mammalian way regardless of what type of monster their mother is. This is possible because of the humanoid forms monsters have. They either have a structure like a human womb already or will be able to create one in their body for the baby. (source: Patreon reply).
- Monster girls also have hymens. There's some individual variation—some of them bleed, and some don't—but overall, there's a tendency for them not to bleed much. It seems that demon blood tends to be a deep reddish-purple color.[2]
Regarding Monsterization
- Generally, all injuries and defects in the body are healed upon becoming a monster. However, depending on the experiences, memories, emotions, etc. of the woman, there are exceptions. Mersé, for instance, retained her scarred, blind right eye after becoming an echidna, because it is a reminder of why she values being an ideal mother compared to her own mother, and she had already optimized her fighting style for her one-eye state. More generally, scars that relate to or remind a woman of the beginnings of her relationship with her husband may remain unchanged when monsterizing. Of course, if they ever change their mind there are usually still other ways to heal these things. (source: Ochiverde personal communication with Kenkou Cross).
Languages of the MGE
(Perentie note: the translation of the names of these languages is likely especially subject to change, as there are many possible translations) (source: Personal communication with KC)
- The most widely used language among both humans and monsters is the "Chief Deity Language," which is said to have been brought to humans by the chief deity. Since many monsters did not possess any language in the previous era, when they became monster girls they often took on the main language the humans used. This language is good for telling stories and writing poetry, and most literary works by monsters and humans alike are written in this language. While this is the main human language, cultures where the influence of the Order has been weak through history (such as the Mist Continent and Zipangu), have their own, distinct, languages. There are also races that have their own language but also use the Chief Deity language as an additional official language, such as elvish for elves and dwarvish for dwarves.
- There is also a genuine "Monster Language" that has been spoken among the higher rank monsters since ancient times. It is known for its directness compared to the theistic language of the chief deity, and for having many words that express complex things with a single word. It is thus very suitable for casting magic. This language historically was limited to certain intelligent monster races, such as demons, succubi, vampires and baphomets, and upon gaining sapience in the current era most monsters adopted the chief deity language as it was easier to communicate with humans using this than the monster language, and many monsters that did speak the language gave it up in favor of the chief deity language. However, even in the present some specialized Sabbath grimoires are written in this language, and there are many high rank monsters that can speak the monster language. Further, because most monsters that did speak in the previous era still rarely communicated or cooperated with other types of monsters, subtle differences in the monster language developed between races that humans would define as dialects. These include:
- The "Standard Language" is used by demons, baphomets and witches. It is the most formal and easy to use.
- The "Inma's Language" contains many words with lewd meanings and tends to be naturally lascivious and seductive.
- The "Vampire Language" has many commanding words and tends to be pronounced in a overbearing tone.
- Lastly, there is an "Abyssal Language" spoken by some monsters that live in the deep sea. It is completely different from the other monster language.
- One feature of the "Abyssal language" is that it is only pronounceable by married abyssal monsters, as speaking it requires overlapping her voice with that of her husband when their bodies are linked. This simultaneous speech is possible not through standard telepathy, as that would still have a time delay, but more through the couple being able to outright communicate to each other what the other is going to say or think before they say or think it, as if they were predicting each other's thoughts, allowing them speak as if they were one person. (source: Personal communication with KC).
A monster's sense of aesthetics and beauty
While monsters can certainly distinguish what humans would regard as beautiful or ugly, they pay no real mind to it. Instead they make judgments based on the emotions and nature they are able to see in someone's facial features. They understand attractive looks and attracting the opposite sex even better than humans do but their values over this manifest differently.
When looking at a woman they judge her beauty or ugliness based on how well she can captivate her prey, and when monsterizing her they do not see it as making a ugly woman beautiful but rather enhancing her ability to captivate men.
When they enhance their husband's appearance (if he is indifferent to his looks) they do not do so with the intent of making him "more handsome" but rather "more impressive", or more socially favorable.
Further, while monsters can make judgments regarding a man as being "tall and cool" or "short and cute," these do not relate to them having any innate preferences for these features. For instance there are not monsters that simply "like muscular men." Instead, if they fall for a muscular man they are attracted to the daily effort those muscles represent. A monster that falls for a short boy will find his earnest efforts to compensate for the physical limitation attractive.
In accordance with this, they are passionate about helping raise their husband up to have the body and appearance they mutually desire. However, it is inappropriate to compare this to them seeking to perfect him or personally "build" him. This is in part due to their perspectives on time owing to their long lives. For an example, to a baphomet the man she chooses as her partner holds the same value whether he is someone who has spent 10 years to become a hero or who will spend 10 years to become a hero. She would equally cherish the 10 years of effort he made before they met as she would the 10 years she would spend nurturing his abilities. Further, if he cannot become a hero in 10 years due to lack of talent, then she can still make him her husband and they can work together to achieve hero status in another 100 or 1000 years. It makes little difference to her.
When it comes to objective viewpoints, they can perfectly assess that a face is judged as ugly or beautiful in human society, but to them that is just observing and stating a fact. It has no bearing on what will specifically arouse them or what they judge as attractive. To them the man they recognize as their husband is the most attractive male and in a unique, incomparable way. They feel attraction and desire based on the unique "identifying elements" that make up his being. They have a romantic sentiment "the person you fall in love with looks good to you!"
Indeed, it can be said monsters are able to see a person's inner being through their outer appearance. When a satyros says "your smile is wonderful" as a pickup line, she is referring to what she sees within the smile more than the smile itself, and how their life experiences have shaped that smile. It could be said monsters have no interest in the face on its own beyond using it for individual identification. (source: Personal communication with KC)
