Gods, also known as higher divinities, are powerful beings in the Monster Girl Encyclopedia world. At least some of them are believed to have existed before the world itself, and were responsible for the creation of it [1] and all the living things within it.
Summary
The "classical" white-wings-and-angelic-choirs gods reside in Heaven, a spirit realm dimension above the clouds which is inaccessible to humans and monsters[2]. Here the higher divinities dwell in vast palaces, while the "lesser divinities", such as angels and valkyries, live in castle towns serving their patron deity. These are the gods worshiped by the Order, with the Chief God exalted highest among them.
Aside from Heaven, some gods occupy their own relevant area of influence, e.g. Poseidon under the sea, or the Fallen God in her own dimension of absolute depravity, Pandemonium. Where Ares and Eros make their lairs is not clear. Each of the gods have their own interests, and not all follow the ultra-anti-monster policy set by the Chief God. The Fallen God and Poseidon are in open rebellion as monsterized beings themselves, and while Ares and Eros both nominally toe the party line, they both grant boons to humans and monsters who adhere to their teachings. Exactly where the cat-goddess Bastet sits in the celestial sphere isn't clear, but she has some human adherents as well as the affection of many feline monster girls.
The divinities were originally distinguished by having "vastly more power than the average human or monster" [3], but since monsters and incubi can infinitely accumulate power by having sex with one's spouse in the present era, there are a fair number of monsters and incubi with power to the degree of a lesser divinity.[4][5] The combined power of the Mamono Lord and her husband are enough to have defeated several gods[6], including the Chief God herself[7], and the Queen of Hearts' creation of a large-scale spirit realm, Wonderland, is noted to "absolutely require godlike power"[8].
The mutability of the gods in the Monster Girl Encyclopedia world is an open question. At the very least, they can be monsterized, but actual clear-cut births remain somewhat mysterious. What is known is that gods and humans can reproduce and produce offspring together; these demigods are closer to gods than humans, and while weaker than most gods, can have abilities gods lack.[9]. On this note, World Guide 3 confirmed gods can die, noting how difficult it is to use necromancy to resurrect a god. Eros is also noted to have made an elixir of life for the gods called amrita, suggesting that their lifespans have been enhanced by this.
List of Gods

- This list just includes entities that really are gods; excluding mamono who might entertain some worshippers.
- The First Chief God - Said to be the creator of the world. Original Chief Deity. Allegiance and whereabouts unknown.
- The Current Chief God - Current Chief Deity, worshiped by the Order of the Chief God. Vehemently anti-monster. Badly weakened and injured in battle against Lilith and her husband, she has remained in Heaven ever since, speaking to humans through oracles and empowering heroes to fight monsters. The Chief God's teachings describe how to live a virtuous life in harmony and contentment with one's neighbours - except the monsters. This doesn't stop mamono from following the Chief God's teaching, by ignore the problematic parts about killing monsters or suppression of desire.[10]
- The Fallen God - The monsterized deity that rules over the Spirit Realm of Pandemonium. Sided with the Mamono Lord after monsterization. Original domain and allegiance not known. Actively encourages the monsterization of humans. Worshiped by the Dark Priests, Dark Angels, and Dark Valkyries. Her followers preach a doxa of complete, unrestrained depravity, and delight especially in corrupting prudish or restrained targets.
- The Sun God - Deity that ruled over the Desert Kingdoms and empowered the Pharaohs, fought alongside the Pharaohs against the Apophis during the start of the age of the former Mamono Lords, and also created the Genies. Allegiance and whereabouts unknown, but implied to have been killed alongside many of the Pharaohs.
- God of the Sea, Poseidon - Initially aligned with the Chief God, but has since sided with the Mamono Lord (the Chief God's command for her to kill monsters and humans alike en masse being the final straw for Poseidon) and become monsterized. Sea Bishops are granted power by Poseidon, allowing those at risk for drowning the ability to breathe underwater. Wadatsumi may be the name she is known by in Zipangu, where the Umi Osho perform a similar role to the Sea Bishops. Belief in Poseidon was originally widespread in Al Mar island of Asuramis Sea, and later became the official state religion of the united oceanic nation Court Alf.[11]
- God of Fighting, Ares - Decidedly neutral, but known to give boons to her worshipers in battle, monster and human alike. Her worshipers include humans and various monster races. Her powers are believed to be one reason deaths in battles between human and monster armies are very few. Ares grants blessings to both humans and monster warriors, although she has little interest in the combat associated with mindless pillaging.
- God of Love, Eros - Officially neutral, but in practice very pro-monster. It's speculated her role among the gods is so important that they are willing to ignore her acceptance of monsters. She is also known to reward humans who perform good deeds with one of her many servants. Said servants include Houris, Cupids, Gandharvas and Apsaras. Its notable that her angels are so like monsters, that even when monsterized, there is barely any difference in their behavior.
- Cat Goddess, Bastet - Presides over the Cat Spirit Realm. Monsterized and sides with the Mamono Lord. She rewards those humans who revere her and love cats by actively granting blessings such as preventing illnesses, and providing bountiful harvests as well as children.
- God of Wine, Bacchus - Officially neutral, but their scriptures do not include any condemnation of monsters, and they are worshiped by humans and various monster races. Satyros in particular are devoted. Bacchus exhorts that people should color their life with enjoyment and form bonds of friendship by drinking.
- Goddess of Life and Death, Hel - Monsterized and sides with the Mamono Lord. Described as a petite and beautiful girl, Hel is considered a relatively young god of willful and unrestrained disposition, who abhors the idea that death is dark, cold, and sad, and that the dead never return. Her blessing is required for advanced necromancy.
- God of Smithing, Hephaestus - Neutral, blesses humans with superhuman concentration and surgical precision, allowing them to create weapons and armor favored by the gods.
List of Minor Gods
- God of Art - People blessed by him can create masterpiece paintings or songs that are so magical people can be overwhelmed by emotions just by taking a glimpse of it. Allegiance unknown.
- God of Knowledge - People blessed by him can become scholars with inhuman capabilities like the ability to process things inside their head with computer-like speed. Allegiance unknown.
- Minor Ocean Gods - There are still parts of the ocean controlled by gods allied with the Chief God, though these areas are relatively small compared to Poseidon's.[12].
- Deity of Sex, Mara[13] - A rival and friend to Eros, Mara grants the man she aspires to "a gigantic penis that cannot descend and rest unless inserted into this follower (monster girl)".
Book Information
Divinities (MGE1, p211)
A general name for the gods, with the chief god who is said to have created the world at the top. Beings that rule the world and humans from heaven, and spread their own teachings to humans through The Order. They also sometimes given humans instructions directly as oracles. Heaven is a hierarchical society. There's a huge division between the greater divinities, who are the gods, and the lesser divinities, who are angels. Furthermore, the gods and angels themselves are divided into many different classes. Even the lowest among the lesser divinities who are Angels, posses vastly more power than the average human or monster. Speaking of the power of the higher angels and gods, it is even more tremendous.
The Chief God According to The Order (MGE1)
It is the omnipotent and omniscient creator god who gave birth to humans and subdued many of the other gods. The chief god is gently watching over humans. Sometimes it extends a hand to steer humans in the right direction. As of the present, the wicked mamono lord who emerged from the darkness is working from the shadows to destroy humans, the servants of the chief god. In order to protect humans from the mamono lord, humans are being divinely protected through God's power and given the power of “heroes.” From time to time, it dispatches lesser divinities to The Order, bestows great power and blessings to the knights and heroes, and joins them in the fight against the monsters.
The Truth (MGE1)
As far as I know about the truth of this world, the teachings of The Order seem to include a lot of falsehoods. From here on, I'm going to introduce a story that goes to the heart of this world. First off, it's true that the chief god created the world and humans. But the mamono lord and the monsters were included as part of the “world” that the chief god created. Saying that the mamono lord is a being who emerged from the darkness is a huge lie on the part of the gods and The Order. Monsters are, in essence, beings that are higher on the food chain than humans. They're living creatures the chief god created so that it could adjust the number of humans. The mamono lord who The Order insists is wicked, was created as a control device so that the gods could control the monsters. As in the present, the mamono lord's mamono mana has always been linked with all monsters. By giving the mamono lord directives, the chief god is able to indirectly control the monsters. Whenever civilization flourishes, and humans increase too much in number, it turns the monsters vicious as in the age of the former mamono lord, killing large amounts of humans, thereby thinning their numbers. And then, when humans start to die out, this time the monsters increase too much in number, so this time it gives humans incredible power, creating “heroes,” and sending them to slay the mamono lord. After the mamono lord is slain, the monsters kill each other to decide the next mamono lord, and until a mamono lord is decided, their number keeps decreasing on its own. And then, when humans reach prosperity once again, and begin increasing in number, a new mamono lord is born as a control device from amongst the monsters.
And then, the entire process repeats itself. This is the world's system. The system was running perfectly until a certain succubus became mamono lord and caused the system to start malfunctioning. The mamono lord used her mamono mana which is linked to all monsters to start overwriting the traits instilled in the monsters from the time when God created them: “Monsters are beings that are higher existences than humans, and monsters are beings that live by eating humans.”
Naturally, the chief god was furious. She tried to eliminate the mamono lord. She gave the power to slay the mamono lord to a hero according to the system at the time, but since the hero betrayed the chief god and went on the side of the mamono lord, the attempt at eliminating the mamono lord ended in failure. The strongest of the monsters, the mamono lord, and the strongest of humanity, the hero, joined hands to create a new world together. The mamono lord who is a succubus, and the hero who was made an incubus by their hands, can increase each other's power infinitely by continuously having sex due to their nature. Their power has already reached the level of a god, and not even the chief god was able to destroy them. The chief god was gravely wounded in the battle, and as of the present, she can't move freely, so she's manipulating humans into doing her bidding through the church, giving many humans the power of a “hero,” and frequently sending extermination squads at the mamono lord.
So all that is the truth of this world. It's already a myth level story. It doesn't feel real to me either. If The Order knew I had written something like this, I bet I'd probably be executed immediately. Whether or not this nonsense of mine is to be believed is up to you who have taken the book in hand. On the same occasion, I was able to ask the mamono lord herself about her future vision for this world that she's trying to change, so I'll summarize it later on.
For those of you who wonder whether this story is true, the mamono lord and hero are both alive and well. Go visit the mamono realm and ask them directly yourself. That is, if you're confident that you won't get caught by monsters along the way.
The Other Gods (MGE1)
Now let's get back on course after that crazy story from before. There are many other beings called gods besides just the chief god. The chief god is trying to fix the system that the mamono lord threw out of whack, but it seems not all of the gods think that way.
“The Fallen God” was consumed by devilish pleasure, corrupted, and changed into a monster while still possessing the power of a god. For the sake of the denizens of the sea whom she loved, “Poseidon, God of the Sea” joined them and went on the mamono lord's side. The alliances of the gods are never fixed and unchanging. Presently, the mamono lord has several divinities as allies. The chief god is in a position where it's getting harder and harder to strike at the mamono lord.
